Hello guy’s it’s me again, Thank you for reading my previous Blog I hope you get something useful from it. Now it is my 4th blog in my EDTECH Subject. Last time discussion was very memorable for me because our group was assigned to report pertaining to the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and it was very meaningful discussion with my classmate and my instructor Sir Reggie. In this blog we will going to talk about how this learning everywhere take place through the use of Technology
and How MOOC touch the learners from different places around the Globe.
massive open online course (MOOC)
massive open online course (MOOC) is a free Web-based distance learning program that is designed for the participation of large numbers of geographically dispersed students.
A MOOC may be patterned on a college or university course or may be less structured. Although MOOCs don't always offer academic credits, they provide education that may enable certification, employment or further studies.
The word MOOC was coined in 2008 by Dave Cormier, from the University of Prince Edward Island for a course offered by the University of Manitoba, "Connectivism and Connective Knowledge." There were 25 tuition-paying students from university and 2,300 non-paying students from the general public who took the course online. There were RSS feeds for material and participation was facilitated through a variety of venues including Moodle (a learning management system), blog posts, Second Life and real-time online meetings.
In 2011, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) OpenCourseWare (OCW) became the first large collections of MOOC resources made available by a university. In 2012, MIT and Harvard spearheaded the edX initiative for the promotion of MOOCs.
after my co-classmate explain the meaning and the history of MOOC we discuss also the characteristic,advantage and disadvantages of MOOC.So here is more precise data about MOOC.
The Advantages of MOOCs:
1. Courses are offered for free
2. Access to courses offered by professors at the top schools
3. Courses are available to a vast and diverse audience across the globe
4. Learners’ performance can be monitored easily using the data captured during the start of courses
5. Both professors and learners get world-wide exposure, thus improving pedagogical techniques and knowledge sharing
6. Can be used as a tool in a blended learning program, where students can access more information than what is provided in the class

The Disadvantages of MOOCs:
1. Can’t provide for personalized courseware and attention from a tutor
2. It is difficult to keep track of students’ assignments and involvement
3. Learners with disabilities and a poor Internet connection can’t use MOOCs
4. Language can be a barrier while offering MOOCs
5. MOOCs can’t be used as a credit-earning course at universities

We are now living where technology is apart of our daily living. Information Communication Technology or ICT was being applied in our classroom setting for different types of learning. Nowadays through Internet connection we can now access more information that learner can use for their growth. Massive Open Online Course provide a next level of learning through internet connection and how MOOC achieve their goal to reach the dispersed student and provide online courses for free.
